request SHOW LESS tell me about forests ? 29m beatrix 'ephemeral' bitrot @bea@ephemeral.glitch.social request SHOW LESS @pan i'm very fond of forests panpan there used to be one behind my house, and it was there the whole time i was growing up our back yard was, and is, small. it only goes maybe 5m back from the house. now there's a plastic fence there but before, that's where the forest was, and i used to wander through there, getting lost sometimes even though it was very small. it was dense with undergrowth and once inside quite difficult to see out unless you were already nearly at the edge. 23m beatrix 'ephemeral' bitrot @bea@ephemeral.glitch.social request SHOW LESS @pan forests are full of thousands of things, and they always have a special smell some are maintained, manicured almost, and easy to wander through, maybe with trails even. others are wild, like the little one that used to be here, full of bushes and vines, with roots and rocks and who knows what else to catch uncautious feet some places the soil is deep and huge trees send thick roots far and wide some places there is no real soil and roots spread on the surface, clinging to rocks 18m beatrix 'ephemeral' bitrot @bea@ephemeral.glitch.social request SHOW LESS @pan in a forest i visited once there was not much undergrowth, but the entire forest floor was covered in reindeer moss i did not want to walk around much in there because it felt so wrong to disturb it the trunks all around me were near bare and visibility was good. it went on like that as far as i could see. bare trunks of conifers down at my level and the delicate reindeer moss lining the ground it was cool and damp and silent 14m beatrix 'ephemeral' bitrot @bea@ephemeral.glitch.social request SHOW LESS @pan another forest i visited was wild and barely clinging to life on the rocks of the highlands not far from here, but still was quite vibrant undergrowth everywhere! burrs, vines, big patches of raspberries growing in the lower places where water pooled fallen trees rotting everywhere but more still growing above, doin their best some places you'd see where wind had blown one over and its entire root system peeled right off the rock to stand up in mid air 7m beatrix 'ephemeral' bitrot @bea@ephemeral.glitch.social request SHOW LESS @pan i can sit in a forest for hours and watch and breathe and think and listen wind rustles leaves and branches, birds and insects fly and land here and there, some call out sometimes it rains and the rain makes different sounds on every surface it strikes, on rock or dirt or splashing against a standing pool already formed crunching! as it hits dry leaves on the ground slapping as it hits broad green leaves still on the maples or whispering through the needles of the pines... beatrix 'ephemeral' bitrot @bea@ephemeral.glitch.social request SHOW LESS @pan the things i'm sharing with you are just the shadows of shadows the residual information in faded memories of past experiences of places here and there over all of my life i wish i could pull on these threads of memory and sit with you in these places so you could smell the air, see the sights, and hear the sounds with me. feel the cool damp breezes or the hot noon sun through the trees with me but i can't give you a forest, just what i have left i hope has been nice for you <3 1m Panpan💔 @pan@glitch.social request SHOW LESS @bea it's okay beabea, i can go to the forest via the shadows !!! part of pan will find that place somewhere imo thankyou so much for telling me about forests ;;w;; makes me very much want to find you in the now and be in a forest
